What To Consider When Buying With a Family

Buying a home, for many, is much more than just a matter of an individual's personal taste or finances, but instead is a family affair. Whether it's for a stable family or for a family expecting to grow in size, buying a home to accomodate either can be a delicate process and a sometimes strenuous balancing act. When moving into a new home, whether it's a starter home or not, takes careful planning and a lot of communication between family members as well as your realtor and is very important, so here are a few things to keep in mind when making plans to buy a new home.

1. The current floor plan

Every family is different, so when looking at a home you should carefully consider what is important for you and your family. Consider your family's dynamic and understand how the floorplan may affect your family's way of life in your home. Do you want all fbedrooms to be ground level? Or do you prefer the master to be upstairs? Do you do a lot of cooking for your family? If so consider a slightly larger kitchen. Look for a floor plan that fits your family's needs.

2. Neighborhood

Does the surrounding neighborhood suit your family's recreational needs? Is it a good and safe community for your children, or future toddlers, to grow up in? If you're a parent looking for good schools or an area that contains recreational facilities for your children to be in, talk to your Century 21 Haggerty realtor about local areas that fit your description and needs, and start your home search from there.

3. Current and future lifestyle needs

While you do need to keep in mind what is important for you and your family now, also be sure to keep the future in mind. Make sure your home as room for your family to grow if you know it's a strong possibility that you may have more kids in the near future. Be sure the house is able to adapt to a more people.

5. Budget

One of the most important things for you to consider when buying anew home, even if you aren't a family yet, is yout budget. Although it is more important if you plan on expanding your family. A growing family only means a growing list of expenses for you to keep in mind. It's good for you to estimate what you need to do to budget for your home currently but also be sure to leave room for the potential increase in expenses if you decide to have more kids in the near future.

Talk to your Century 21 Haggerty realtor about you and your family's needs and wants in a new home, and about your future plans as well. Remember when buying a new home plan on living there for at least 5 to 7 years so make sure you plan accordingly.
